Growing up in the Church of God and being raised in the East Laurinburg Church of God (Rev. R.P. Fields), I first heard of Bro. Hughes at a young age. I remember going to campmeeting in Charlotte, NC as a teenager and hearing Bro. Hughes speak. I'll never forget having the opportunity to hear him because I always was left knowing I heard a special Word from the Lord and remember the passion and love with which Bro. Hughes preached the Word of the Lord. I believe that he also visited our church when I was young. Bro. Hughes was a great man of God and he will be greatly missed. My prayers go to his family and friends. Know that his legacy and love of the Lord will be forever remembered.

One of the highlights of growing up was to hear my Grandparents and father talk about Ray Hughes and his powerful preaching. They new his father and the family when in Ohio. I remember as I grew up in the church the powerful preaching and demonstrations of the Holy Spirit in Camp Meetings and Prayer Conferences. One of the greatess high lights of my life was sitting under his ministry every Sunday night at Chapel when he was President at Lee University in the early 80's. Thank you Bro Hughes for your example of Fervent Prayer, thank you for laying hands on me and imparting into my life. Thank you for preaching no other, but the name of Jesus, with the Power of Penecost. Weeping for sinners, and hearing from Heaven rather than the sound of money.

.........Dr Ray H. Hughes..will be greatly missed, but his life was like a lighthouse beacon which cast it's light to keep us safe from the storms of life. His life and light will continue to guide us though the lighthouse is gone.

DR RAY H. HUGHES WAS A POWERFUL PREACHER OF THE GOSPEL. I HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SEEING HIM AT THE CHAROLLTE AIRPORT EATING A CONE OF VANILLA ICE CREAM ON HIS WAY BACK TO CLEVELAND, TENNESSEE HE WILL LONG BE REMEMBERED AS A MIGHTY MAN OF GOD.

Rev. Michael A. Ball said:   April 11, 2011 12:30 pm PST
He's known the world over as the "Prince of Preachers" & "Mr. Pentecost." We'll never forget his sermons "The Anointing Makes The Difference," "What Shall Happen When Jesus Returns" and many others. But what I'll remember him for the most, is how he took time for this young evangelist and shared his ministry and his wisdom with me. The many e-mails, phone calls and the chance to visit with him at his home will never be forgotten. The Sunday morning that I began my first revival I was so nervous. Before I left home I opened my e-mail and there was a message from Bro. Hughes letting me know that he was praying for me. He'll never know how important that was to me. My, how I am going to miss this mighty man of God. He was a hero to me. Ray Hughes...I love you and thank God for letting our paths cross. Until we meet in Glory....Michael Ball

My husband, James T. Boyd proudly displays his Ordination Certificate with the signature of Ray H. Hughes, General Overseer of the Church of God. That signature is so special to him, since that signature represents his favorite Pentecostal Preacher in the Church of God. Blessings to the family.

Janice: I am saddened but somehow encouraged by seeing your father's life. It seems like yesterday that we were students together--I remember your mother practicing the organ, and you being such a part of campus life--and of course your father, whose life gave so much to my own. Till we all meet again in that better campus! JB

He will be missed tremendously, but, will be where the rest of us are wishing we will be one day. Too many of the true Pentecostal ministers have gone on to their reward, & not too many of the younger generation seem to have the anointing that Dr. Hughes had. My prayers & sympathy are with you all at this time.

The void I feel as I heard about the passing of a great Man of God. I have listened and experienced the power of the Word of God he preached. Also, while running revival in Mt. Dora, Fla I was priveleged to go to the home of Dr. Hughes and pray for him, but most of all he laid his hands on my head and prayed over me, my family and ministey. I will forever be blessed that I was able to know such a wonderful Man of God and the legacy he has left behind for all of the Church of God. His faith, his love, his compassion and most of all his hungry for God will be missed, but I promise I will do my best to be faithful to the calling and anointing placed on my life to touch others as he touched my. GOD BLESS YOU HUGHES FAMILY FOR SHARING HIM WITH THE WORLD. We will be praying for you.

I am so sorry for the Hughes family's loss this week. It is wonderful that he will not be suffering here anymore, but he will be sorely missed. I do have a special memory of Dr. Hughes. I was on the Praise Team for one of our Camp Meetings and I just happened to be standing off to the side of the stage when Dr. Hughes came to the stage waiting his turn for the mic. The gentleman in the mic at the time started reading scripture by first stating the location, and then reading the scripture. For whatever reason, the gentleman read on and on and on, in all different off-the-beaten-path scriptures (meaning, not the typical ones you hear and know). Dr. Hughed didn't know that I could hear him in his small voice far off from me, saying the scriptures with the reader. I turned to glance and smile at him, expecting to see a giant Bible in his hand as he read along. But to my incredible amazement, I turned....not to find him reading along, but with no Bible in hand, and his eyes tightly shut, and a huge smile on his face, quoting ALL of the scriptures without missing a word or phrase, or not even missing the slightest article. Word for word, chapters long, he quoted along with the reader. I, to this day, am blown away by what I witnessed that evening. I look forward to seeing Dr. Hughes again........on the other side. To God be the glory, forever and ever, Amen! Jeffrey

I am saddened at the passing of Dr. Ray H. Hughes, but I rejoice in the fact that he is with his Lord of Whom he preached about so eloquently. Our denomination now has a void which will not soon be filled. I always referred to Dr. Hughes as the "Prince of Pentecostal Preachers". He truly inspired my life at the young age of 15 during an Alabama Campmeeting. I can still hear him proclaim, "Let the Fire Fall". My family was truly blessed to have Dr. Hughes as one of the officiating ministers at my father's funeral. He did a masterful job as he always did in whatever capacity was needed. I will miss you Dr. Hughes, and it is my prayer that I will be found faithful to the end so that I may be reunited with you and all those who have gone on before. My condolences to Linda and the Hughes family at large. My thoughts and prayers are with you now and in the days to come. May the Holy Spirit be your comfort.

Dr. Ray H. Hughes, was a dear friend, as we had done many camp meetings, etc., in the years past. I shall never forget, as when I was just starting out with the music ministry that God had given me, it was Dr. Hughes who on his own, sent me a letter of endorsement and stated to present his letter as a reference to any Pastor, etc., in and out of the Church Of God. Truly we can say that he labored To Enlarge The Kingdom. God bless and keep The Hughes Family

The first time I heard Bro. Hughes was in a Camp Meeting in Florida, years ago. I was amazed at the anointing upon his ministry, and have been blessed beyond measure through the years by his knowledge of the Word of God, his love for God, the church, and for people. I know he is being rewarded already, and that many people welcomed him into Heaven.

Our condolences to the Ray Hughes family from your distant relatives in Calhoun and Cartersville, GA -The Rev. Stanton Erwin Family. Our Papaw Erwin and Bro. Hughes were first cousins, brothers in the Lord, and fellow pastors in the Church of God. Papaw passed away three years ago so we all sympathize with you in loosing Bro. Hughes. I personally never had the privilege of meeting Bro. Hughes but I have heard the stories of he and Papaw visiting together when they were growing up. Papaw's mother Lone Cochran and Ray's mother were sisters-some strong faith in that family line. I'm proud to have such a godly heritage. May the Holy Ghost that we Pentecostals believe in comfort your hearts and lift your spirits, for we know Bro. Hughes is running the streets of gold and shouting the victory!

In 2007 I was commissioned by the Holy Spirit to build the official Ray H Hughes web page. Within days I had the blessing of the Hughes family. Yet, I have remained quiet, just a servant of the Lord and Dr. Hughes. I labored for months to build the page. At one point I was awake for 24 hours, posting pictures and sermons and sermons in print. I typed hundreds of sermons, not all have been posted. You see, I was not worthy to be associated with such a great man, so I remained out of the picture. In time I would turn the work over to my brother Daryl, who now operates the page. Yet, it was my high honor to build the work and be in touch with Dr. Hughes since 2007. He was the most grateful man I have ever known. He was gentle and loving and kind. I wish the rest of the world could have known the personal side of Dr. Hughes. The fact is, he prayed for me, he and sister Hughes, each day since 2007. I felt his prayers and they were affective. Everyone knows he was the Prince of Pentecostal Preachers, but he was also as great a man outside the pulpit. Brother Hughes was very aware and acknowledged often, that my work was ordained of God. There was very little on the world wide web to honor the Ministry of Dr. Hughes. Now, his presence is everywhere. God has confirmed my work. You see, I have loved the ministry of Dr. Hughes my entire life and I was frustrated he was not represented on the web. Thank God, that has changed. The Lord inspired me to write over 50 nationally charting songs, but my work with Dr. Hughes was the highlight of my life. He was a great man in every sense of the word. Above all, he was a Christian. In closing, again, I was not worthy to be associated with Dr. Hughes, yet God had a higher purpose for me. I will miss you Brother Hughes, until I see you again. My special regards to Sister Hughes, for her love and care of the man of God, who suffered so greatly all those years.

I am remembering Dr. Ray H. Hughes today. He was a great leader and pentecostal preacher! I remember when they parked his scooter by me at General Assembly a few years ago in Indy. All of my life growing up in the Church of God, Dr. Hughes has greatly impacted me. Many of camp-meetings, Prayer Conferences, and revival services that I attended as a child, I told the Lord when I started in the ministry of evangelism, " Lord please help me never to compromise the Pentecostal message that transcends every cultural change through the years. Help me to preach the unadulterated truth, flow in the purest form of God's power, to reach all walks of life and all ages, and to see the demonstrations of God like I have seen growing up through the ministry of Dr. Hughes. He has impacted my life for life! He will be greatly missed! A reformer and great general has mad it home!

I sure he is now shouting on the mountain tops of Glory.

Shea and I have discussed in past weeks who is going to continue the work of such great preachers and leaders as Brother Hughes. I am so sad to hear of his passing. I received the baptism of the Holy Spirit in a powerful service at North Cleveland when I was ten years old. I was in the junior choir and we sang that night and then after Brother Hughes preached, we filled the altars. I will never forget that night!

I'm sorry to hear that Bro. Hughes has passed away. We've lost another general, but our loss is certainly heaven's gain. We know that he's having a great time right now at his reception in heaven, where he was greeted by all the saints of God who went on before him. I'm sure my dad is somewhere in that crowd to welcome him home. I hope it won't be too much longer before the rest of us can join them.

I met Brother Hughes around 50 years ago at our church in Fairborn, OH. and it always excited me to hear him preach with such awesome anointing and intense authority! He became one of the greatest mentor's in my husbands ministry (Rev. Larry T. Rose) who has also gone home to be with the Lord! I loved Brother Hughes' compassion and dedication as he encouraged us so much during our ministry! It brings me to tears to hear that he's passed away but our loss is heaven's gain!

Dr. Hughes has been and always will be a inspiration not only to me but millions. I grew up listening to him at camp meetings and to his sermons. As a minister of the gospel he has challenged me as a pentecostal not to back down from my heritage but embrace it and operate in the power of Pentecost. I had the privilege and the honor to meet him while on staff at North Cleveland and be with his family as he was beginning his journey to meet the one whom he preached about for years. Even during that difficult time it was encouraging to be around him because he was continuing to fight the good fight of faith. Dr. Hughes family will continue to be the testimony of what their great patriarch preached and poured out into them. My last words to brother hughes were, "I will preach the gospel that you stood upon and preached". That is my commitment and my word. To live on the legacy of pentecost in the honor of Jesus our Lord and a fellow minister Dr. Ray H. Hughes. My prayer is that strength during this hard time will rise up and Jesus who is there peace will be evident in their life. I salute you Dr. Hughes as we reflect on your life and ministry.

Dr. Hughes played an instrumental part in the direction and guidance of my father's ministry. I can only imagine that my Dad was there to welcome him home. You and your family will be in my daily prayers!

His sound advice and insight have blessed my life from that day until this. He remains an inspiration to me, and I count it a great honor to call him my personal friend and a friend in ministry. He is known as a prominent evangelist, educator and a skilled administrator, and rightfully so. Dr. Ray H. Hughes is a person I learnt to know and love during His ministry while I was growing in the Lord. I can remember that day, on July 1967, after coming from the 8th World Pentecostal Conference in Brasil to the Isla Maciel Church in Buenos Aires, Argentina, on the city bus, going to downtown he told me, "Brother Pupillo, you have to go to Lee". He made the effort to prepare a place for me which became a reality several years later. He preached a wonderful sermon at the special gathering in that church. From that day we develop a wondeful christian friendship. I used to call him, "Mr. Pentecost" due to the anointing he displayed on his messages. Thanks, Dr. Ray H. Hughes for you example and passion for the Lord and His Church.

It is altogether fitting for the Peniel Drug/Alcohol Residential Program, located in Johnstown Pennsylvania, to name our newly constructed library in honor of Dr. Hughes. This long awaited component to our program has been made possible because of Dr. Hughes' tremendous effort to generate financial support for this project, his genuine love for the lost and his aggressive efforts toward those caught in the web of various addictions. He has personally engaged an official consultant to design the library's layout. He has also contributed a variety of invaluable books from his private collection. In addition to his financial support, he has donated valued memorabilia from his vast collection of honors he has received over the years - some of which to be exclusively displayed under glass. Dr. Hughes has quietly spearheaded this addition to our educational program which will provide needed learning aids that are designed to inspire our clients to further expand their world view and ignite their thirst for knowledge It is true that there is only ONE Ray H. Hughes and we are very honored to say that ... we personally know the man.

The 1st time I ever heard Bro. Hughes was on a cassette tape given to me by Bro. Joe Black(an old time C/G elder) as a young christian. I wept and cried for days thinking on your words. Bro. Joe Black has gone on to be with the Lord now but thank God for this website of Dr. Hughes preaching. Bro. Hughes, I had the privilege of meeting you one time at the Ala. City C/G camp meeting in 1990. I will never forget that night. Thank you for letting God use you these many yrs. I only wish I could hear the rest of the message on "The Work of the Holy Spirit in the Ministry of Jesus Christ". May God Bless You as you have blessed me.

My young wife and I joined the COG in the mid 70's. Soon thereafter I experienced the ministry of this powerfully anointed man of God. To my, his voice thundered through my spirit as if it were the very voice of God! I had the grand joy of meeting him in person during a minister's event at Cleveland while visiting the International Offices. I still speak of that brief event. His ministry, his message and his life impacted mine in a powerful way. You can imaging my joy to having discovered this web-site! As a 3 year child growing up in a small town in rural West Virginia, some of my earliest and fondest memories are listening to Dr. Ray H. Hughes, Sr. on cassette with my father. Anointed sermons like: "The Anointing Makes the Difference, Hallelujah Anyhow!, and Jesus Could Come...Tonight. The reciting of these power-packed messages were, in fact, some of my first complete sentences-right down to the voice inflection of Dr. Hughes. Although Dr. Hughes has been often imitated by other ministers-his Godly anointing, evangelistic calling and passion for The Word will never be duplicated. Through the co-efforts of Christ centered parents and the teachings of Mr. Pentecost himself, I can say that I have a rich Pentecostal heritage that I am proud to share and reflect in my ministry today. Thank you & God bless you to Dr. Ray H. Hughes, Sr. for your influence & to "Doc" for this website. Dr Hughes, thank you for a wonderful book! I thought I had all of your books. My dad had even given me a copy of 'Religeon On Fire' which he had bought at a Missouri Camp Meeting back in the 50's. But while in San Antonio, I was visiting your booth at the General Assembly. Looking at the book titles I kept saying "got it, got it, got it... " Then I found one I didn't have, "Pentecostal Preaching". WOW! A book on pentecostal preaching by the 'Prince of Pentecostal Preachers'. Who could resist it. Very well written and full of practical instruction, yet the overwhelming theme of the anointing comes through with blistering force. Your passion for God, for the Word and for Pentecostal ministry is evident on every page of this book. And by the way, I was baptized in the Holy Ghost at one of your camp meeting services here in Michigan, so I thank God for your ministry. You and Sis. Hughes are constantly in our prayers.

While visiting in the home of two precious Christians, I learned that Dr. Ray Hughes could be heard on the internet preaching! I was so elated that I could hardly wait to get home to my computer. I went to my first camp meeting at the FL campground at Wimauma in 1950. I had rec'd Christ Jesus as my Lord and Savior on 9/5/49 in my bedrm at home and I began attending the C.O.G. at Orlando where Rev. A.V.Howell was pastor, my grand- mother was a member there. As I walked up to the tabernacle at Wimauma, they were singing "I've Been Listening in on Heaven" and I felt as if I had just found it! Dr.Ray Hughes was the night time preacher and I have told people that I was forever ruined for listen- ing to another man preach the gospel at the Florida Camp meeting. May God Almighty bless you until he returns or calls you home, Dr. Hughes.

Growing up in the Church of God I was privileged to hear many great men stand in the pulpit and bring the Word of the Lord to the people. When Dr. Ray Hughes stepped behind the pulpit at the COG Campmeeting in Charlotte, NC in the days of my youth I was reminded of the thought, "Never a man spoke like this man." The anointing and the mantle under which this man preached was a great revelation of just how close a man can get to God. Hearing him preach under such a powerful anointing of the Holy Spirit forever changed my life. It gave me the hope that I too could someday share God's love as if I had touched His face. Dr. Hughes has surely touched the face of God. May God's healing power be loosed upon the man who has touched and stirred so many hearts and helped rekindle the flames of some old smoldering logs like myself! I love you Dr. Hughes! Ray Hughes is the prince of preachers, one of the most powerful - anointed men of God to ever come along. His life sets the tone for his preaching, he has lived what he has spoken from pulpits across the world. As a young minister I was given tapes of Ray Hughes preaching and within minutes knew that I was listening to a vessel of God with a word from heaven. Pentecost is better because of Ray Hughes, The Church of God is better because of Ray Hughes, and I am what I am because of Ray Hughes. If I could be selfish I would ask a hard thing as Elisha did when he stood with Elijah to view the Jordan "Let the mantle he has carried through the years just brush me". Ray Hughes life and sermons have impacted untold millions of people around the world. His leadership - prayer life - sermons and committment are an example to a generation that needs his anointing. May God use his words well beyond his earthly life to impact future preachers and lay people alike to "pursue pentecost with a passion" that we may make a difference in the world in which we live. Ray Hughes is a icon - a real hero - in a world that needs real heroes.

I joined the Church of God as a 6 year old boy in the spring of 1969, one of the most familiar names to me other than my pastor then was Ray H. Hughes. The first time that I ever heard him preach I knew that this was a man of God. When I became a lay minister in the summer of 1981 I began reading the bible and books from Dr Hughes and literally wore-out his sermon tapes and had to go and buy more. This man had and has a special anointing of God for our generation. I have personally met Brother Hughes on several occasions, and have had the privilege of introducing him at a camp meeting. Without a doubt his passion is preaching the gospel and leading men and women to Christ. The most wonderful thing about his mission as a preacher is that he was mostly concerned in winning souls into the kingdom. In my prayer time, when I am praying for my family, the church, and the nation, I call out names of leaders for God to help and bless. Among the names I recite is Dr Ray H. Hughes Brother Hughes has impacted many other preachers like me, he truly is a Prince of Preachers? God Bless You.

Growing up in South Mississippi, in a Church of God home, the name Ray H. Hughes was often spoken in reverence and respect. There is no doubt he is one of the greatest preachers of any era. His knowledge of the Word, his dedicated walk with God and the anointing of the Holy Spirit upon his life marked him as a called man of God. I know that we aren't suppose to have favorite preachers, but he has always been one of mine. His influence reaches far beyond the Church of God into all denominations of Pentecost. Dr Hughes's life teaches many things: faithfulness, clarity of mission, unsullied trust in Jesus Christ, the art of being effectively humble, the secrets of spiritual battle with our enemy, gentleness in dealing with hurting humanity, scrupulous obedience to the Word of God, firmness in dealing with character-development in men, how to surrender all the rights of oneself to Jesus, how to honor and glorify God by being careful in the mundane activities of everyday life. I've sat under his ministry as a student in Lee College, and followed his life since then with admiration and gladness. What a godly, good, and faithful servant!!

Ray H. Hughes--I knew of him long before I met him. Growing up in the home of a Church of God pastor, naturally I would hear the name Ray Hughes and it was usually coupled with adjectives such as fiery evangelist, strong leader and the best of the best when it comes to Camp Meeting speakers. It was not until my late teens that I actually saw him who by that time was "larger than life" in my mind. As a young freshman at Lee I was awed by his position as President and by his very presence--he exuded authority and confidence. I began to date his son Don a few weeks into the first semester--a courtship which lasted 3 1/2 years and led to marriage. From Lee days to the present I have never lost sight of his importance and powerful influence not only in our denomination but in the kingdom of God globally. Perhaps this is so because as an "insider" I've had a better vantage point from which to view this man--a man of fasting, prayer, study of scripture, generous giving and love. I can speak without the slightest reservation to his humility, compassion, integrity and total devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ. Even though the intense and sustained suffering in his body these past few years have somewhat diminished his physical stature, he is and always will be "larger than life" to me. I love you Dad with all my heart.

On November 27, 1983, Dr. Hughes preached a message, "What Does the Cross Mean To You"? That night God rescued me from sin and called me by His grace to preach the Gospel. Ray Hughes has been a preaching mentor and Pentecostal Statesman. I will always cherish the opportunity I had to serve with him on the Executive Council, and now, because of this Web site, my children can have the privilege of hearing and seeing a true Evangelist and Godly example. Ray H. Hughes Sr. is greatly gifted by the Lord. I am most acquainted, personally, with his gift as an educator when Ulna and I served with him in his rescuing and building Lee College into an institution of note in intellectual, professional and spiritual development and preparation for service to God and the Church. This was accomplished in an atmosphere of spiritual revival. Dr. Hughes also has an intimate human side with family and his adopted family, of which Ulna and I are privileged to be members. I will always cherish our time together on the ball field, golf course, singing duets on the drive to the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, risking life and limb as he drove furiously to make our classes on time. Although I was of a little different mold than some, he recognized my love for God and was a steadfast friend--a loyal friend who stuck close like a brother. He was there for me in Birmingham when I had emergency bypass surgery, in Tullahoma after a blood clot and heart attack and several times at Bradley Memorial Hospital ER. He is a friend of the past, a friend of the present and a friend forever. Hubert P. Black

Even at the early age of 12 years old, he gave me and my sisters (Jacobs Sisters) an opportunity to minister at the General Assembly. He also gave me my first opportunity to sing in chapel while I was at Lee. There have been many campmeetings where he was the speaker and I was the singer. He always said, "Judy, you and I make a great team". His affirmation toward me, really impacted me and encouraged me pursue all that God has for me in ministry. Dr. Hughes is a real inspiration to many young preachers, and I am no exception. His legacy will be his innovation in making the Church of God what it is today. He did not just impact our denomination, he impacted the kingdom of God. He helped bring Pentecost, from being a backwoods concept to being mainstream. His preaching is demonstrative and Pentecostal, yet he brought class and dignity to being a Pentecostal preacher. scripture tells us to mark the perfect man. In my book Brother Hughes is as close to the prefect Pentecostal preacher and leader as one can get. He called us young preachers out in a campmeeting service and prayed for us, I will never forget that prayer and that service. Bro. Hughes will always be in my prayers. He definitely could be called Mr. Pentecost.

I had just experienced the Born Again life at sixteen years of age (55 years ago). As a farm boy and a school dropout, I was learning to read by using the King James Bible as my lesson book. While still helping dad raise tobacco, I went to a special statewide meeting at my church, East Burlington Church of God. Dr. Hughes was the National Youth Director and speaker for that evening. The anointing of God on him and the power of his Biblical message actually set the tone for my life from that night forth. To an uneducated country boy, He was a voice from God. Just a round of golf and lunch with Dr. Hughes where he so graciously encouraged me as a young evangelist proved to be a life changing experience of which I shall never forget. Those Florida camp meetings where he was the night speaker will never be forgotten as long as I shall live. Thank you Lord for this bright light.

Dr. Hughes this past Sunday was our featured speaker at our annual homecoming. Many, if not most of those in attendance, were deeply moved by his presence and anointing. He is STILL the most dynamic and vibrant speaker of our generation. God bless you brother Hughes from me and all of those whom you have blessed last Sunday.

I am blessed to have been influenced at a young age by such an incredible man of God. I am also blessed to be a long time friend of Larry Petree.

We first met just prior to my taking my exhorter test in December 1961. From that day to this I have cherished our fellowship. You are a powerful man with a great anointing, with sincere love and appreciation for the Word of God and the Church of God, to hold forth sound doctrine wherever you have served, and you have served well. With love, Rev. William Curtis

Congratulations on your new web page! It has been my privilege to serve in many different capacities with Dr. Ray H. Hughes. May God bless you and keep you and cause His face to shine upon you.

What can I say? I am Ray Hughes' daughter. Dad has been and still is an amazing man. His passion for ministry has never dissolved and his commitment to evangelize around the world was accomplished. Two things that stand out to me are....he was not a man of gossip or speaking ill of people (much less a fellow minister) and his prayer life impacted me growing up. And, yes, the anointing does make the difference.

Thanks, Bro Petree, for creating this internet memorial for this wonderful servant of our Lord, Jesus. Bro Hughes is my all time favorite preacher and it makes me glad that someone finally made the effort to honor him via the worldwide web. May all who visit this website be informed and/or reminded of the ministry and contributions Bro Hughes provided and may they feel appreciation for how God used him for His kingdom sake. And may God bless you for taking the initiative to provide this great website. Blessings, Mickey Mixon www.GospelSongwriter.com

Dr. Hughes has long been a great leader in the Church world. I have heard great preaching in my time, but never have I heard better than Ray H Hughes. His sermons on worship and praise are classics, like the sermon, "Hallelujah." I heard Dr. Hughes preach that sermon in Ky, he struggled just a little while, then he caught a live wire and the Spirit of God moved and anointed Dr. Hughes. The place came unglued. People dancing and shouting from the back to the front. Man oh Man, what a preacher. I just pray to be able to hear him again. In my estimation, Dr. Hughes is the greatest Church of God preacher and pentecostal preacher of all time. He had class and great style and substance in his preaching. May he live longer and longer and continue to bless the people.

Dr. Ray H. Hughes, Sr. is a dear friend. I have visited with him in his office at the Church of God General Headquarters in Cleveland, TN. We have spoken several times on the telephone. I felt discouraged one time in my life, and Brother Hughes gave me funds to come to TN to visit with him where he encouraged me in the Lord. Brother Hughes has been an inspiration in my life. He impacted my life as a young person attending the Holy Ghost anointed services in the outdoor tabernacle of the Church of God Camp Meetings in Ohio where the power of God fell night after night. As a child of 8 or 9 years old, I literally memorized his sermon that was on a 45 LP record entitled, "Social Sins." Brother Hughes is perhaps the greatest Pentecostal preacher I believe that I have ever heard. His sermons will set your heart on fire. He preaches with an anointing that few preachers possess. I spoke with Brother Hughes a few years ago, and informed him that the Lord had brought me to Miracle Valley and that, with God's help, we are going to raise up anointed men and women of God who will preach the gospel with the special anointing of the Holy Ghost such as Brother Hughes himself possesses.
